"I understand": Alan Myers drops big behind-scenes Everton claim, fans surely excited - opinion

Alan Myers has revealed that Duncan Ferguson has the “support of the players” as Farhad Moshiri looks to appoint a new permanent Everton manager.

What’s the story?

Moshiri is set to appoint Lampard with a final decision reportedly made on Friday evening.

This, however, represents a hefty U-turn in the club’s thinking as prior to that, Myers revealed that Big Dunc was in line to get the job until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

tweet read: “I understand Duncan Ferguson would take the job for the rest of the season and has the support of the players.”

Give Ferguson a chance

Amid the fan protest against Vitor Pereira’s potential appointment, Moshiri looks to have just taken a step back before making his final decision on who he wants as the club’s next permanent boss.

While Ferguson perhaps doesn’t have any of the senior managerial experience as the other candidates, he has already shown signs of being able to foster a real team spirit at Goodison Park; and crucially, he has an affinity with the club’s fans from his playing days.

In his four games in charge during his caretaker period in December 2019, the Scot picked up a notable 3-1 victory over Chelsea to lift the Toffees out of the relegation zone at the time.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has also thrown his backing behind giving Ferguson the job, saying: “Yes, Pereira has got a very good CV but they would be taking a big risk there. You have to think that world-class managers like Carlo Ancelotti, Ronald Koeman and Rafa Benitez have struggled at Everton.

“They need somebody in right now who understands the club. I cannot understand why they would go for Pereira when they have Ferguson there. I am 100 per cent in Ferguson’s camp. Give him the job.”

If Moshiri is keen to get the fans back onside following his recent gaffes, then hiring Ferguson would’ve surely been a popular choice – certainly more so than giving the reins to Pereira.

Either way, with Lampard now on the verge of arriving, fans will still be excited that the club have decided to stay away from the dreaded Portuguese coach.

Meanwhile, Patrick Boyland has dropped an Everton transfer update…
