Forget Ramsey: GvB must unleash £12k-p/w Rangers "winner" who does “everything right”- opinion

There is no shying away from how dismal Rangers’ performances have been in their last two Premiership outings.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have picked up one point and conceded six goals from their matches against Ross County and Celtic in the past seven days, with the latter ending in the Dutchman’s first defeat in charge of the club.

Rangers face Hearts on Sunday in a game where they will surely be looking to return to winning ways, and it could see a number of changes made from the side which was humiliated by the Hoops in midweek.

Forget Ramsey

Whilst Gers supporters may be excited by the prospect of Aaron Ramsey coming in to make his debut for the club after joining on loan from Juventus, Van Bronckhorst must unleash another central midfielder who could have a big impact on the team – Ryan Jack.

The Scotland international came on at half-time against Celtic with the score at 3-0 and helped Rangers to get a foothold in the match after being swept aside with ease in the first 45 minutes. He ended the game with a team-high 7.1 SofaScore rating, completing 90% of his passes and creating two chances for his team-mates whilst also hitting the bar with a sensational effort from distance.

Jack brought composure to the middle of the park and was able to dictate the game as the Gers attempted to get back into the match. They may not have managed to claw any goals back in the end, but his performance was promising and hopefully a sign of things to come in the next few weeks.

Former Gers boss Steven Gerrard claimed that Jack did “everything right” at Ibrox and went on to say: “When we came in we inherited a good player, without a doubt. Aberdeen had done a really good job with Ryan in terms of his development and giving him the opportunity to play at the top level. He obviously became a leader.

“So there was coaching prior to us that deserves a lot of credit in Ryan’s development. We obviously saw a winner when we came in.

“Someone who was really keen and open to learn, grow and buy into what we were trying to do. His consistency has been fantastic to see and it’s no surprise with the way he goes about his daily routine and business.

“He does everything right at the gym, he eats well and he trains and prepares every single day for the game at the weekend or midweek. So it’s no surprise that Ryan finds that level of consistency because he does everything right.”

These comments highlight what the £12k-per-week beast could offer to those around him on the pitch outside of his footballing ability. He could lead his team-mates into battle and give them a lift in matches, which could be particularly useful after two tough results on the bounce.

Therefore, Van Bronckhorst must forget about just including Ramsey in the team on Sunday and instead unleash Jack from the start against Hearts, as his quality in possession and his leadership could be crucial to the Gers this weekend.
