Lage could end Wolves’ goal draught with 6 ft 2 striker who “can’t stop scoring” – opinion

Wolves may already own an asset who can help them to rectify their lack of goals, and you may struggle to guess who that is…

Struggling to score

Wolverhampton Wanderers have struggled to score goals this season, with Bruno Lage’s side netting just 33 goals in the Premier League – a stat that means they are the fifth worst attacking side in the league with an average of just one goal per match.

The Molineux side’s top goal scorer in the Premier League this season is Raul Jimenez with just six goals – a tally that sees the Mexican rank 45th in the league’s goal-scoring charts this campaign.

The season has not been prosperous for Jimenez, who has missed the most big chances in the Wolves side this season with eight missed.

On the chalkboard

Lage is admittedly frustrated with Wolves’ lack of goals this season as he stated after the 1-0 defeat to Burnley: “We are not scoring goals, we are not taking our chances since the first day.”

One of the Old Gold’s loan stars, however, is not experiencing the same feelings as Lage or Wolves. That man is Learnardo Campana – a player “who can’t stop scoring” according to the MLS via Twitter.

6 foot 2 Campana, who has not played a single minute for Wolves’ first team, is lighting up the MLS with David Beckham-owned Inter Miami CF.

The 21-year-old Ecuadorian has seized his opportunity in Phil Neville’s side this season, netting five goals in eight matches, making him the joint-second top scorer in the league and meaning he has outscored Gonzalo Higuain so far this season.

Campana’s form has seen him bench the former Real Madrid bagsman and his hat-trick in the 3-2 win against New England Revolution would have sent a clear message to Bruno Lage.

With the season in America not long starting, Campana has notched up a total of seven returns in nine overall appearances (including the MLS Cup) in a vein of form that has seen him bag six goals and one assist. For comparison, Raul Jimenez has scored six goals in 29 matches in the league this season for Wolves.

If Lage wants him for next season, he will have to convince the player directly, with Inter Miami holding an option to buy clause.

If not, this could potentially turn out to be a big mistake for the Old Gold who would see Campana as one that got away…
