West Ham United are interested in a deal to bring Keylor Navas to the London Stadium this summer.
What’s the talk?
That’s according to a report by Italian publication La Repubblica (via Sport Witness), who claim that David Moyes’ side have now joined SS Napoli in the race for the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper’s signature this summer – with Christophe Galtier believed to have made the 35-year-old surplus to requirements at Le Parc des Princes.
The report goes on to state that West Ham informed the Costa Rica international of their interest in his services on Tuesday morning, with it also being said that the Premier League club would be able to offer the shot-stopper a much larger salary than the one on offer at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Randolph upgrade
While it is true that Moyes has already added one impressive goalkeeper to his first-team squad this summer in the shape of Alphonse Areola, considering just how much experience and talent the signing of Navas would add to the 59-year-old’s side, it is not difficult to see why the Scot would be interested in a move to bring the PSG stopper to east London in the coming weeks.
Indeed, the former Real Madrid goalkeeper has amassed 452 appearances in his professional career, conceding 435 goals and keeping 165 clean sheets along the way – with 65 of these fixtures coming in the Champions League – a competition which the 35-year-old has won three times – and 12 coming in the Europa League.
However, it is not only his past that would make him an attractive proposition for the Hammers, as the £7.2m-rated Costa Rican highly impressed over his 21 Ligue 1 fixtures for PSG last season, keeping seven clean sheets and making an average of 2.9 saves per game – metrics that saw him average a SofaScore match rating of 7.03.
Furthermore, with the £37.5k-per-week Darren Randolph – who has been tipped to leave the club this summer – currently being West Ham’s third-choice between the sticks – and the 35-year-old having made just five Premier League appearances over the last four seasons – it is clear to see that Navas would represent a quite significant upgrade on the former Republic of Ireland international – both in terms of ability and value for money.
As such, it would appear highly advisable for Moyes to do all he can to land the £200k-per-week player who Jon Arnold dubbed “unreal” this summer, as it is evident that the shot-stopper’s experience and talent would be a huge plus to West Ham’s squad.
