Tottenham Hotspur are targeting the signing of a new winger as a replacement for the outbound Bryan Gil.
What’s the talk?
That’s according to Dan Kilpatrick’s latest report for the Evening Standard, in which the journalist revealed that, although a number of reports have claimed that Gil’s return to Valencia on loan has all but been completed, Antonio Conte is reluctant to sanction the 21-year-old’s departure until he brings in a replacement for the Spain U21 international, the identity of which is currently unknown.
Kilpatrick went on to state that Conte views the winger as a talented player, although the Italian manager has previously expressed his concerns over the youngster’s suitability for Premier League football.
Speaking after Saturday’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 52-year-old said: “The squad is this and if someone goes away then another has to come. This has to be very clear for everybody. Otherwise, we stay with this squad and we continue our path with these players, this squad.
“But if someone has to go away, along another must come. This is very clear for me, for the club, but we are totally agreed on this aspect. [Gil’s future] is not my task. About the transfer market, you have to speak to the club. I think we have to respect their role.”
Great news for Conte
While it is undeniable that Gil is a talented young footballer – something he proved over his 28 LaLiga fixtures for Eibar in 2020/21, scoring four goals, registering three assists and averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.04 – considering just how little the Spaniard has featured under Conte, the news that Paratici is eyeing a replacement for the winger will be great news for the 52-year-old manager.
Indeed, since the Italian’s arrival at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last November, the £16.2m-rated attacker has started just two fixtures under the former Inter Milan, Juventus and Chelsea head coach – making a further six appearances from the bench.
As such, it is clear to see that Conte does not completely trust the £80k-per-week talent, with the potential of Paratici replacing the former Sevilla starlet with a more suitable and cost-effective attacker sure to be an incredibly exciting one for both Spurs supporters and the 52-year-old manager himself.
Indeed, it is clear to see from the January signing of Dejan Kulusevski that Conte is well aware of the type of attacker he requires in his front three, with the Sweden international having proved one of Tottenham’s best additions in recent memory – having already scored six goals and provided nine assists over his 23 appearances for the north London side.
So, should Paratici manage to unearth another Kulusevski-type signing as Gil’s replacement, it would only further increase Tottenham’s chances of success both domestically and in the Champions League this season – with the club having already got off to something of a flyer in the Premier League, currently sitting fourth and boasting an unbeaten record after three games played.
