Everton have been linked with a move for Che Adams this summer, and a new update has emerged from a reliable source on the Toffees’ progress in signing the Scotland international over the remaining days of the transfer window.
What’s the latest?
According to Sky Sports News, the Southampton striker is one of the targets for Everton as they attempt to strike over the next few days.
A clip from Sky Sports on Twitter stated: “We’re hearing that Everton want to sign a forward and one target for them is Che Adams at Southampton. One source has told us that the deal under discussion would value Adams at up to £25m.”
Moshiri must act now
With the transfer deadline getting ever closer, Farhad Moshiri must secure this deal before it’s too late, as leaving his manager without a reliable striker to deploy over the coming weeks and months could be an absolute disaster for Everton.
The much-maligned Salomon Rondon has started just once in the Premier League this term and boasts a pitiful record of three goals in 26 games for the club.
Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is currently sidelined with a knee injury, which has left Frank Lampard without a trusted striker in the team following Richarlison’s move to Tottenham Hotspur, and the cracks are already starting to show at Goodison Park.
After three Premier League games, the Toffees have failed to pick up a win so far and earned just one point, which will surely make supporters anxious even at this early stage following their relegation scrap last season.
A week ago, Lampard was a lot calmer than many of the Goodison Park faithful will be feeling at the moment when he said in his post-match press conference to address speculation about a centre-forward signing: “We have to make the right move for the right player at the right time in a considered way and we remain in that position and we’ve got two weeks left.”
It now appears that Lampard has his eyes set on Adams, and it comes as no surprise that Everton are intensifying their interest in the player after his fantastic display at the King Power Stadium against Leicester City last weekend.
The 26-year-old earned his first Man of the Match award of the season and single-handedly delivered Southampton’s first win of the campaign, despite only playing only 31 minutes as he came off the substitutes’ bench when his team were 1-0 behind against their hosts.
Adams – who was dubbed a “clever player” by Ally McCoist earlier this year – took full advantage of his opportunity off the bench, scoring a brace to take all three points off Brendan Rodgers’ side.
It will be interesting to see whether Everton simply sign a stop-gap to cover for Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues, or if they bring in a striker who can push the 25-year-old goal machine for his position in the team. Either way, Adams would appear to be a great choice.
