Edu could land Arteta his own Lewandowski in £15m Arsenal swoop for “world-class” star – opinion

Arsenal will surely be frustrated about the domestic season stopping for the World Cup, especially with their sparkling form this season.

Mikel Arteta’s men have won 12 of their 14 matches, scoring 33 goals in the process, and currently lead reigning champions Manchester City by five points, with many of the Arsenal faithful now hoping for a first Premier League title since 2004.

Thoughts in the meantime turn to the transfer window, however, with Arsenal looking to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.

The club have been linked with Marcus Thuram and Fabrizio Romano may just have given Arteta some positive news in an interview with GIVEMESPORT, saying:

“So, there are many clubs approaching his agent.

“From what I’m told, he’s not going to extend the contract, so it makes a big opportunity for many clubs in the summer. Let’s see if Arsenal will decide – or any other club – to negotiate in January for a different price.”

The Athletic claimed that the Frenchman could move for just £15m due to his contract situation and this may be a price that Arsenal pay in January to land the player. Arteta should pounce, especially considering he can be his own Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski 2.0

The 25-year-old has registered an impressive 17 goal contributions (13 goals and four assists) for Borussia Monchengladbach this season and he is comparable to the Barcelona striker as per FBref’s similar player model.

The two strikers have registered similar statistics this season when it comes to shots on target (30 to 28), shots per match (4.23 to 3.74), and goal-creating actions (8 to 7).

Lewandowski has been one of the most revered strikers over the course of the previous decade and landing someone similar to him would surely give Arteta a massive boost.

Thuram’s performances led Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer to laud him as “world-class” and with Bayern Munich also interested in the player, the 40-year-old will need to act sooner rather than later in order to secure his signature.

In the exciting Frenchman, the Gunners’ new sporting director Edu Gaspar could well secure Arteta his very own Lewandowski, should he win the race for his signature in January.
