Leeds United head into Saturday afternoon’s Premier League meeting against AFC Bournemouth off the back of a hugely impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend – a result which marked the Whites’ first win in nine top-flight fixtures.
However, while there were a number of eye-catching displays from Jesse Marsch’s side at Anfield – with youngsters Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto both proving catalysts for the shock victory – there were nevertheless a coupled of players who underperformed for Leeds last time out.
One such player was Jack Harrison, the left-winger who started the 2022/23 campaign like a house on fire – finding the net once and providing a further three assists in his first three outings of the season – but is now yet to register a direct contribution to a goal in his last nine Premier League games.
The 25-year-old once again offered the Whites little in attack against Jurgen Klopp’s outfit last time out, something that Marsch must take into account when drawing up his starting XI for the visit of Bournemouth this afternoon.
Indeed, over his 72 minutes on the pitch at Anfield, the £23m-rated winger was practically anonymous, completing just 12 of his 17 attempted passes – the joint-lowest of any outfielder to start the game – failed to find his man with either of his two attempted crosses and did not complete any of his four attempted dribbles.
The former England under-21 international also lost possession of the ball on 19 separate occasions, failed to win any of his 11 duels and was dribbled past twice by an opponent.
These returns saw the £60k-per-week attacker – who Jake Winderman dubbed “awful” earlier this year – earn a hugely disappointing SofaScore match rating of 6.0.
Leeds Live’s Beren Cross awarded the former Manchester City starlet a five in his own player ratings, stating: “Had some decent moments at the high point of the second half, but generally lacking quality in the final third. Final product nowhere to be seen and looked a yard off the pace at times, even in the first half.”
The same journalist would go on to state in his pre-match build-up to the Bournemouth fixture that “starting for Leeds United may be in question” for Harrison this weekend. It’s something that Marsch must seriously consider, as a repeat performance of the winger’s display against Liverpool could very easily end up costing the Whites big time at Elland Road this afternoon.
