Klopp could finally offload "wild" £120k-p/w Liverpool dud in January, it's time to go - opinion

Liverpool have had their worst start to a Premier League campaign in a decade, and a reliable source has given an update on a player that Jurgen Klopp could be ready to offload in the January transfer window.

What’s the latest?

According to Dharmesh Sheth, Naby Keita could be sold in January to make way for new signings at Anfield.

The Sky Sports reporter told GIVEMESPORT about the 27-year-old: “He has had his injury problems throughout his career at Liverpool. There have been links once more to a return to the Bundesliga, but he is with the Liverpool squad now in Dubai and he has resumed training with them.”

“It is definitely one to keep an eye on because if Liverpool decide not to extend that contract, then there might even be business to be done in January.”

It’s time to go

It is no secret that Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements in the middle of the park, with many of the club’s midfielders either set to be out of contract in the summer or reaching the latter stages of their careers.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Keita are all entering their last six months of their contracts, whilst club captain Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are into their 30s and have been unable to start in every game for the Reds over the last few seasons.

Liverpool are currently reported to be pushing deals for both Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez, with Borussia Dortmund commanding a transfer fee of around £130m for their star midfielder and a £103m release clause claimed to be set on Fernandez.

As a result, the mooted sale of Keita could not come at a better time for Klopp and the powers at Anfield as they put together the funds to secure the signings of the next generation in the heart of midfield.

The £120k-per-week Liverpool midfielder – who was described as “wild” by Gabby Agbonlahor – has been plagued with injuries since his arrival on Merseyside back in 2018, suffering 18 incidents of illness and injury, tallying up 456 days in recovery over his four-and-a-half years at the club.

Keita has been unavailable for the entire season so far, contributing to Liverpool’s weakened midfield and their struggles on the pitch as they lie sixth in the Premier League ahead of the World Cup break.

It was also claimed by Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg in the summer that the Guinea midfielder was not happy at the club and would prefer to leave rather than sign another contract to extend his stay with the Reds.

With that in mind, it is definitely time for Keita to move on from Liverpool, and ultimately it could be the best decision for both player and manager as Klopp plans for the future at Anfield.
