Leeds must swoop for £90k-p/w “monster” who’s “unstoppable”, imagine him & Harrison – opinion

Leeds United have enjoyed a free-scoring start to the season under Jesse Marsch despite their league position. They sit just two points from the relegation spots, but with 22 goals from 14 games have outscored every team except one within five places on either side of them.

In front of goal, they are hardly suffering, but it is defensively that could cost them their place in the Premier League. They have conceded 26 across this period too, which somewhat diminishes their goalscoring exploits.

To solve this, it is clear that January recruitments are necessary, with the rumours linking them to Aaron Wan-Bissaka actually seeming like a smart move.

An incredibly solid full-back, he has been lauded for his one-on-one defending ever since breaking through at Crystal Palace.

Such was his quality that he spurred Manchester United to spend £50m on him, with broadcaster Aaron West labelling him a “monster” because of his physicality and ability to make the most unorthodox of tackles.

He could form a fine partnership with Jack Harrison, who despite boasting incredible attacking potential has never been one to shirk his defensive responsibilities.

Having struggled in front of goal this season, he still has recorded 1.3 tackles whilst winning possession 1.5 times per game. With eight goals in the league last season, he has more than proven he can do it all.

To put him in front of the England defender, who during the 2020/21 season recorded 1.8 interceptions, 2.6 tackles and 1.8 clearances per game, via Sofascore, could not only solidify one side of the pitch but offer the 26-year-old added freedom to expand on his attacking numbers.

The £90k-per-week dynamo would earn a deserved 7.14 rating that campaign, and with four assists also somewhat dispelled the myth of his lack of attacking threat too.

Journalist Dave O’Grady had suggested he must be an “unstoppable force” to command the fee he did back in 2019, however, has been replaced of late by the impressive Diogo Dalot.

Therefore, it could represent a fine opportunity to secure safety in the form of a truly brilliant defender.
