"I'm being told" - Sky Sports reporter reveals transfer "information" out of Man United

Manchester United are not currently pursuing a move for Joao Felix as the price demands are too high, Dharmesh Sheth has claimed.

What’s the word?

United have been strongly linked with a loan move for the Atletico Madrid forward, who looks set to depart the club in this window, but his asking price for a six-month loan remains extraordinarily high.

Erik ten Hag is keen to add a striker to his squad, and the club are seeking a short-term solution which includes exploring the loan market.

Speaking on the Stretford Paddock Podcast, Sheth has hinted that United are exploring other targets to Felix whilst the asking price remains too high, and that they are not pursuing the Portugal star.

“The only issue for United with regard to Joao Felix, and it’s why the information I’ve been given, as it stands as well as it’s early in the window, that they aren’t going to go for him, is simply because they can’t afford the price that Atletico Madrid would be wanting for a six-month loan,” he stated.

“I’m being told it’s around £19m including wages. It doesn’t make sense for United as far as they’re concerned.

“They would be interested in a player like Joao Felix, but not at the terms quoted.”

A waiting game?

Given that United had a heavy outlay of around £230m in the summer, any January deal may have to be a cheaper one or a loan, before splashing the cash again at the end of the season.

They may be waiting for a top target, such as Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, to sign in the summer as Ten Hag’s long-term number nine, and simply be after a stop-gap until the end of the season.

If Felix’s price comes down towards the end of the January window, then it would not be surprising if United return for the 23-year-old as an option for the next six months, but at his current price he does not resemble the cheaper short-term signing they desire.
