What’s the latest on Leeds’ manager search?
The former River Plate boss, who is currently without a club, is thought to be on the west Yorkshire outfit’s radar after impressing several key figures at the club, via the Telegraph.
Now, it’s been claimed by journalist Dean Jones that the 47-year-old is indeed high on the shortlist to replace Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.
“I know Gallardo is one of the names high on their list,” he revealed to GIVEMESPORT.
“But they’ve already failed with the last three or four managers that they’ve considered for this job since Marsch has gone. They’re starting to look pretty desperate.”

The Argentine, who played for Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco during his playing career, has done an exceptional job outside of Europe, having altered the fortunes of River Plate tremendously.
Indeed, across his eight-and-a-half-year tenure, Los Millonarios won 14 trophies, three of which came within the first 14 months at the helm, highlighting his ability to get the ground running – these were even the biggest titles on offer in South America’s equivalent of the Europa and Champions League.
His playing style on the pitch has been compared to that of Mauricio Pochettino, who made a name for himself at Tottenham Hotspur. “Gallardo is certainly growing his reputation and some people believe he’s similar to Pochettino in style,” claimed football.london journalist Alasdair Gold.
A primarily 4-1-3-2 formation saw him bring home a 54.7% win rate across 424 matches, which are remarkable returns, whatever the division.
Such exploits have even caught the eye of Manchester City‘s serial winner, Pep Guardiola, who lauded Gallardo’s achievements in South America. “What Gallardo has done with River is incredible. Every year three coaches are named as the best in the world, and he’s never among them,” he said (via The Athletic).
With an “aggressive” and “offensive” outlook on the pitch, chairman Andrea Radrizzani could finally get Leeds kicking again by hiring Gallardo, and given the evidence above, he could well make an instant impact in a desperate bid to transform the Yorkshire sleeping giants, just as he did in Argentina with River.
